Bill Williams 7s report

The U20 boys and girls rugby 7s teams competed in the Bill Williams 7s tournament last Friday afternoon at Kings Park. The competition was the final competitive fixture for this age group in the school for the year, and it was the final time the Y13’s wore the Harrow jersey.

The girls played in a round robin structured tournament which saw them go down to a local Barbarians side, West Island School and King George V school. The best performance was left for the last game. The girls, unfortunately, went down 15 – 10 to the combined team of Kellett school and Discovery College. Polina Chelpanova and Ava Grylewicz had their tournament cut short due to a knee injury and broken collarbone. However, the girls played some attractive rugby, and Poppy Otten led the way with some outstanding defensive work throughout the day.

The boys had a tough introduction to the tournament with a 48 – 0 loss to South Island School, 15 – 10 loss to Canadian International School and a 37 – 0 loss King George V school in pool play. The boys were led well by James Brammer who showed grit and determination and managed to score two tries in the tournament. The final game of the evening was against YHKCC for the Shield Final. The boys gave it their all and unfortunately didn’t come away with the win, going down 24 – 15.
